A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you&#8217;re there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Georgia; color: #333333;\">Seeing these unusual<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacatra.com\/portfolio\/family-portraits\/\">family portraits<\/a>\u00a0by Camila Cotrambone, I began to think about the objects that are\u00a0tied to memories of my parents. My mother\u2019s paisley address book \u2013 the writing looks like a carnival of ants tumbling across the page; her well-worn paintbrushes still stored in a favorite Hanukkah coffee mug I gave her years ago; my dad\u2019s prayer shawl from his long ago temple days, tucked away in a burgundy velvet pouch; and a collection of his engineer\u2019s slide rules, yellowed with age. There is such comfort and connection to be found in these ordinary talismans \u2013 along with the stories I tell, another way to hold my parents close. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Georgia; color: #333333;\">What\u00a0about you?
